meet Carissa

I’m Carissa, a trauma therapist specializing in depression, anxiety, relationships, neurodiversity and perinatal/ postpartum mental health.

As a therapist, I bring a flexible and open-minded approach to my work with clients. It is my passion and drive to engage in this meaningful work, as I see it as a gift to be able to connect with individuals and gain insight into their unique experiences. Witnessing vulnerability and helping clients recognize their inherent strengths is both rewarding and inspiring and I can’t wait to support you on your journey.

my training + experience

I received my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, where I was trained in a biopsychosocial approach to psychotherapy. Prior to my masters I worked in a non for profit working with children, youth and families, providing meaningful supports and resources based on their needs. I also teach in the social service worker program at Georgian College, I’ve been here for over 5 years.

I have completed extensive postgraduate training in the treatment of trauma, including the following trainings:

·        CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

·        CBT-I Training for Insomnia

·        DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)

·        EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

·    Certified Pain Reprocessing Therapy practitioner

·        Assessing and treating Perinatal Mood Disorders

·        Infertility, Pregnancy Loss & Reproductive Trauma Training Course

·        Level 1 Clinical Training Gottman Method Couples Therapy

·        Certified ADHD Professional (ADHD-CCSP) Intensive Training Course: Evidence-Based Strategies for Managing ADHD Across the Lifespan (IN PROGRESS)

My practice is guided by my belief in the human capacity toward healing and growth.  I see therapy as a collaborative process that allows us to be deeply seen and heard. As we begin to understand ourselves more fully and whole, relationships become richer and more fulfilling. Therapy can strengthen our ability to adapt and adjust to the ever-changing circumstances of our lives, freeing us up to respond more flexibly to the world around us and to experience a more enlivened way of being.
