perinatal and postpartum support
At Sparrow Therapy, we are passionate about supporting individuals through life's challenges, including those unique to the perinatal and postpartum period. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, family planning, fostering, and adoption can be complex and emotional topics to navigate, but you don't have to face them alone. We are here to offer a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insight, and develop the tools you need to move forward. Together, we can work towards a more positive and fulfilling future.
a few things we can address in therapy:
-
Having a new baby is a significant change that can be overwhelming for some new mothers. We can help new mothers adjust to their new roles and responsibilities.
-
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are a group of mood and anxiety disorders that occur during pregnancy or in the first year after giving birth. PMADs can include depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. We can provide support and treatment for these disorders.
-
Sometimes, pregnancies don't go as planned, and women experience miscarriage or stillbirth. We can provide support to women who are grieving the loss of a pregnancy.
-
The arrival of a new baby can put a strain on relationships. We can help couples navigate the transition to parenthood and work through any relationship issues that arise.
-
Many women struggle with body image after giving birth. We can work through these feelings and support you in developing a healthier self image.
-
Lack of sleep is a common issue for new mothers, and it can have a significant impact on their mental health. We can provide support and strategies to help new mothers get the rest they need.
-
Parenting can be stressful, and new mothers may need support to manage this stress and develop effective coping strategies.
a note from Carissa:
“Alongside being a therapist, I am also a mother who has travelled the road of infertility. My husband and I have faced many challenges on our journey to have our son; an incredibly lonely and isolating time. Looking back, I believe that if I would have had the support of a fertility specialist during this time, it would have made such a difference for me. This is why I'm committed to providing a safe and supportive space for clients struggling with infertility.”
